On March 14, 2007, SPICE sponsored a World War II veterans' panel for teachers that featured two former kamikaze and one U.S. Navy veteran whose ship (USS Drexler) was sunk by kamikaze attacks. Prior to the panel, the teachers viewed the film, "Wings of Defeat," a documentary about kamikaze pilots during World War II. The panel was part of SPICE's 2007 30-hour high school seminar on East Asia sponsored by the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia and funded by the Freeman Foundation.
